Therapy & Counseling in New Jersey

Evidence-based mental health counseling for individuals, couples, and families — in our Maplewood office or through secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy for clients located in New Jersey.

Therapies

At Skyview Health, our therapy services are designed to support mental, emotional, and relational well-being through personalized, evidence-based approaches. Our skilled therapists work with individuals, couples, and families to address a wide range of challenges, including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, and life transitions.

Through therapy, we provide a safe and confidential space to explore thoughts and emotions, develop coping strategies, and build healthier patterns of communication and behavior. Whether in-person or via teletherapy, our goal is to help clients foster resilience, strengthen relationships, and achieve overall emotional balance and personal growth.

Therapy is not only “talking it out.” Sessions may include skills practice (for example in CBT), exploring patterns in relationships, or building motivation for change. Your therapist will collaborate with you on goals and pace. When you also see a psychiatric provider, we work toward a coordinated plan so therapy and medical care support the same outcomes.

How we use different approaches

Below are common modalities we offer. Not every approach fits every person; your therapist will recommend what is most likely to help based on your situation.

  • CBT — structured work on thoughts, behaviors, and coping skills.
  • Family & couples — communication, boundaries, and shared goals.
  • Christian-based — optional integration of faith with evidence-based care when you request it.
  • Aromatherapy & music therapy — supportive tools that can complement other therapy when appropriate.

Therapeutic services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Structured, evidence-based work on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors — with homework-style practice between sessions so skills stick for anxiety, depression, and related conditions.

One on One Talk Therapy

Individual sessions built around your goals, whether you need a short-term focus (for example a crisis or transition) or longer exploratory work at a steady rhythm.

Motivational Interviewing

A respectful, collaborative style that strengthens your own reasons for change — often paired with health behaviors, recovery, or ambivalence about next steps.

Family Therapy

Whole-family sessions to improve communication, roles, and problem-solving — useful when stress, illness, or conflict affects everyone at home.

Couple Therapy

Partners learn to repair conflict, rebuild trust, and align on expectations with guidance from a neutral clinician — in person or via teletherapy together.

Christian-based Therapy

Optional integration of Christian values and prayer alongside evidence-based methods — only when you request this approach and it fits your treatment goals.

Aromatherapy

Calming sensory tools that can support relaxation and grounding when used as an adjunct to your broader therapy plan — not a substitute for clinical treatment of mental illness.

Music Therapy

Structured use of rhythm, listening, or creative expression to regulate mood and process emotions — offered as a complement to talk-based work when appropriate.

Therapy FAQs

How long is a typical therapy session?

Many outpatient therapy visits are about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your clinician and the type of session. Your therapist will confirm length and frequency at intake.

Is teletherapy available for couples or families?

When clinically appropriate and agreed by all participants, some joint sessions can be held by secure video. Logistics (same household vs separate screens) are discussed during scheduling.

How do I know if cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is right for me?

CBT helps when you want practical tools for anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, or rumination. Your therapist will review your symptoms and preferences; if another modality fits better, that will be part of the conversation.

Can therapy work together with psychiatric medication?

Yes. Many people combine therapy with medication prescribed by a psychiatric provider. With your consent, therapists and prescribers at Skyview Health can coordinate so treatment plans stay consistent.
